The Search for Singapore’s BREAKING NEW Star
Singapore Idol is a television show on Channel 5 of MediaCorp TV. It is a competition among undiscovered singers in Singapore. Like others in the Idol series, it is modelled after Pop Idol. The judges are Dick Lee, Florence Lian, Douglas Oliverio (replaced by Jacintha Abisheganaden in season 2) and Ken Lim. The show is hosted by Gurmit Singh and Daniel Ong. The show is produced by MediaCorp Studios and FremantleMedia Operations BV. The show was defunct for a while after the second season and was replaced by another reality contest, Live The Dream, premiering on Singapore’s National Day, exactly 3 years after the beginning of season 1. On the December 15th edition of the Today newspaper, Mediacorp announced that Singapore Idol Season 3 will arrive on television screens in 2009.
Singapore Idol Season 3 (2009) registration is now opened from May 1. Details are available at the official Singapore Idol 3 website, http://5.mediacorptv.sg/idol.
Online registration will run till June 6. The competition is open to Singapore citizens or permanent residents between the ages of 16 and 30.
Auditions will be held on June 6 at The Cathay from 8am to 6pm. It is stated in The New Paper (27th May) that season 2 co-host Daniel Ong will not be returning due to his commitments as programme director of 987 FM. It has been finalised that the host for Singapore Idol would be Gurmit Singh while the co-host would be Hady Mirza, a former Singapore Idol, the winner of Singapore Idol season 2 and the winner of Asian Idol 1. Also, Jacintha has been removed from the panel of judges, leaving the rest of the original panel of Dick, Florence and Ken.
The third season of “Singapore Idol” is scheduled to premier on MediaCorp’s Channel 5 on August 9, after the telecast of this year’s National Day Parade.
